V1.9 is our biggest update since the original release of the app.

We’ve added many new ways to view your data, and also many fixes for the most common bug reports: like inaccuracies with sleep data or needing to delete invalid weight history.

Sign up with Email

No more Facebook requirement!

Until now, Gyroscope has required a Facebook account to easily get started and automatically sync your profile photo, timezone and suggested friends.

Though we still recommend using Facebook to login for the fastest setup, now anyone without Facebook can also use Gyroscope! Just use your email address and set a password to get started.

Y0u’ll have to manually upload your profile photo, and it will take a bit longer to add your friends (since we can’t auto-suggest them from Facebook), but the app experience should be mostly the same.

Important note for existing users: You can only have one account, so if you have already logged in with Facebook and set up your account, do not create a new email account or neither of them will work properly!

We will be adding a way to add passwords to existing accounts soon.

Swim tracking

Free!

We’ve added support for swimming from the Apple Watch series 2 (or any other way you’d like to track swimming workouts in HealthKit).

Now the card displays distance swam in yards along with an estimated lap count! You can even upload a photo from the pool or track your heart rate during the swim for some additional metrics.

Annual Reports

Pro Feature

Annual reports are one of the most popular pro features, and a great way to review and show off all of your hard work from the previous year. We recently released 2016 Annual Reports on the website, and now they are also available in the app.

There are a few categories of reports with some brand new visualizations. One of the cool things about having a whole year of data is being able to spot trends and streaks in the calendar view.

If you traveled to places and tracked it with Moves or Foursquare, you may have some great maps to share.

Lots of people use Gyroscope to workout regularly, and we want to celebrate that with some exciting visualizations. How many donuts of calories did you burn? How many total miles did you bike around your city? Be sure to show off your hard work and tag us in the photo!

But our lives are not just traveling and working out. Most of us work on our computers during the day. We’ve partnered with RescueTime to show more stats and insights about this data.

Please note: the app loads literally millions of data points for the whole year, so your annual report may take 20–30 seconds to first load. This is normal!

If you just recently found out about Gyroscope, you may not yet have enough stats for your complete 2016 report.

The year 2017 is just starting, and now is a great time to start tracking everything about your life. Then at the end of the year you can look back at everything you accomplished!

Printed Annual Report Book

Learn more

Not technically a feature in the app, but a way to see your data in real life. If you really enjoy your annual report in the app, you can now get a printed version as a book. We hope this will be good motivation to make every day count — since it may be printed and on your coffee table one day, for all to see.

The 2016 book will have 64 custom pages and a hardcover, and can be preordered for $299. For early preorders in January, we will be offering a $50 discount so you can get your custom book designed for only $249.

Why is it so expensive? Generally, books are printed in thousands and then each one ends up being quite cheap. However, these are designed and printed from scratch just for you. Each one takes a few hours to produce, and the printing costs of a single-run book are also quite high.

Goal Tracking

Pro feature

Just in time for your 2017 resolutions, we’ve made some improvements to goals. We released goals in the last version, but we’ve been getting a lot of feedback and bug reports and making improvements.

Goals are created week to week, so even if you have very ambitious goals for the year, we will help you take it 7 days at a time. It is very manageable to stay on track and set some simple goals for yourself each week.

Improved accuracy

The display and calculation of your progress should be more accurate in this version. If you lost or gained weight, etc. it should give you proper credit and show a progress bar for the week.

Smarter goal notifications

We are activating notifications for your goal progress! We’ve been beta testing these for a while and now they should be available for all goals.

As you go through your week, we will send you some reminders to tell you whether you are on track or need to do things differently.

View previous goals

Now you can go back and see your old goals from any weekly report. Just tap on the goal from any card and you will see that week’s history and how you scored on the goal.

New & improved sleep tracking

Pro feature

Saving & editing Sleep AI Data

We’ve been making our sleep AI more and more accurate. Wearing an Apple Watch while asleep and setting up RescueTime will give it more information to analyze, and improve the detection accuracy from around 50% to 90%.

However, we’re not psychic and it is possible we will get some nights wrong. Now we’ve made it easy to fine-tune all of your sleep data and take it from 90% to 100% accuracy each morning. The process is simple — just mark the sleep as correct or make some minor adjustments, and it will get officially saved to your account.

This will also lock in that data and make it load faster for next time. Especially for people who travel across many timezones, this is an important step to start building an accurate history of your sleep.

Editing sleep to be more accurate.

Using HealthKit to track your sleep

There are also dozens of other sleep tracking apps and devices out there that people are using. We support most of them through the HealthKit integration, but often they make mistakes or have data-quality problems.

It is common to delete extra data points or adjust the times to be more accurate. Now you can delete bad data points or adjust the sleep data that came to Gyroscope from HealthKit.

Editing Weight

Free!

Weight is a common data point that can often get messed up. Sometimes apps will write bad data into HealthKit. Other times a cat or another human may step on your scale and create bad data.

Now it is really easy to edit your recent history. On any weight card, just tap the “Edit” button and you will get to the weight data page.

Just hit “delete” for any points that look incorrect, and they will be removed from your account.

If you’re liking the app, you should make sure to get Gyroscope Pro and unlock all of the best features, including the new annual reports!

Are you enjoying Gyroscope Pro? Now you can get your friends on it too!
