Mahdi and I just spent a week working together in Canada, and I wanted to share some of the new & exciting things that we’ve been working on.

A preview of V1.7

We’ve been working on a new & improved version of the iPhone app. It will be coming out very soon, but I wanted to share a quick preview.

We’ve added an alternate option to the cards view, which shows your latest data plus some sparklines right on the main page. Now it is easier than ever to get a good overview and dig deeper into your data.

The popular daily summary notifications will also been split out into their own feed, so you can easily review your progress each day.

Rumors & new products

A bunch of new devices have been coming out lately and we’re excited to keep improving the data that goes into Gyroscope.

  • The Potential Future of the Apple Watch — Mahdi talks about what the new Apple Watch would have to do to stay competitive and be a useful tool for improving people’s health.
  • There have been some leaks and rumors of some new Fitbit devices coming out soon, including an updated Charge. That’s one of my favorite devices, so we’re really excited to see what comes next.

Gyroscope Personal Records

We’re constantly inspired and amazed by all the things our users do, and use Gyroscope to share. We’ve started to showcase some of them in the Personal Records series—if you haven’t read them yet, you should definitely take a look. The main takeaway is that everyone’s use case and life story is very different.

Tatiana is the top steps champion, consistently averaging about 30k a day. If you want to see how she does it, check out the post here.

Dan had a heart attack a few years ago, and has turned his life around since then by biking regularly. See how he does it.

Zach lives in the bay area & shares some of his favorite trails to go running. Prepare to be inspired by his beautiful photos.

Cat balances having a newborn baby and being a startup founder, so you really have no excuses for not being productive. Read how she does it.

Ernesto has probably been doing Quantified Self longer than anyone, and just finished his PhD on self tracking. If that wasn’t enough, he also ran the LA marathon and a few half marathons in the same year. Check out the post.

Gyroscope Labs

We’ve started a new Labs section to share new projects and experiments we’re working on, and let people subscribe for more updates. Most of these are things that will eventually be released as Pro features.

First on the list is a new AI sleep tracker, that automatically figures out when you were asleep if you have enough other data — motion from your watch, computer data from RescueTime, etc. It’s been in beta for a month and starting to get really accurate, and we plan to start rolling it out soon.

We’ve also got some other stuff in early development, like analyzing genetic data to better tailor the insights we deliver and help you have better workouts.

We’re really excited to start releasing more of these life-changing insights features that we’ve been working on for the last few months. If you’re excited about these new features and want to get the first access to them, you should definitely upgrade to Gyroscope Pro.

cheers,

Anand Sharma

PS: If you haven’t downloaded the latest app version, you can get it here.
