Our first big update is now available in the app store. Since we released the app last month, thousands of people have used it to track and share their activity, and we’ve gotten tons of useful feedback about what people liked and didn’t like.

Cookie Counter 🍪

One of the most memorable and fun features in our app was the count of donuts. Continuing on that theme, we’ve added a new cookie counter.

We’ve also added an approximate step count to the bottom, to make it more relatable. Many people are now measuring their daily steps, so that is a very practical unit of measurement, more human than miles or kilometers.

Better Color Selection 🎉

Photos make really nice backgrounds, and we try to analyze the colors to build a color palette. They often looked very nice, but sometimes the text would be too washed out or the map would be hard to see.

We tested this new version on hundreds of photos to create the best looking and most readable color combinations, for any type of photo from sunsets and cityscapes to selfies.

More Customization ✨

We’ve drastically improved the default photo view, but sometimes you need a little more customization to create the perfect image. We’ve added a few hidden but powerful features to further tune the photos.

Tapping the map or the logo in the corner will cycle through some other color options, so you can make sure it looks good against the background.

Tap the logo to cycle through some alternate colors.

In the photo view, tapping the city name will also toggle between showing the state or country instead — especially useful when traveling.

You could tap the city name to show “Japan” instead.

Highlighted photo uploads 📷

Another improvement we made to photo handling is highlighting which things have a photo from the main screen. This makes it easier to go back to the ones that were more memorable or that you may want to share again.

A camera icon indicates a photo has been added.

More sharing options

In addition to Instagram or camera roll, you can now post directly to Facebook. Of course once the image is saved to your photos, it can go anywhere.

Nicely rounded distances 🔢

For those who like to run nice, rounded distances, many of the views now display a simpler number — “3 miles” instead of more precise “3.0 miles”.

Featured Runs 🏃

As people have been sharing their runs and tagging us on social media (we’re @gyroscope_app on Twitter & Instagram), we’ve been featuring some of our favorites in the app and on the site.

Check out the feed of featured runs to get inspired and see how others have been using the app.

Fixed Crash

We briefly released a version which had a crash on photo upload. This should now fixed in v2.0.1. If your app is crashing on photo upload, please make sure you are on the latest version.

V2.0.1 is now available in the App Store!

The app update is now available to download from the App Store. If you like the app, we would really, really appreciate if you left a review.

If you’d like to invite your friends, please send them the short url: gyro.run

Other Gyroscope Apps

Running by Gyroscope is our only app officially released in the app store, but we’re working on a couple others to help track and share other parts of your life.

Cycling App

Many people have wanted a similar version for their bike rides. We’ve been working on a separate beta app for cycling, which is similar but has lots of subtle improvements and differences tailored more for biking.

Health App

We’re also developing a new Healthkit-powered app for tracking and sharing the rest of your life in similar ways. It is currently available for Gyroscope Pro users, though we may release it to the public in the future.
