We’ve redesigned the Gyroscope app from the ground up to help you live longer with science, with a simplified interface that brings you new insights powered by your real data.

Managing your body requires the correct balance of sleep, nutrition, activity, exercise and much more. But many people are currently struggling with at least one or two of these—resulting in widespread health problems like obesity, diabetes, depression, and mortality.

So how can we fix this? How does Gyroscope help?

Gyroscope was originally named after one of the main instruments in an airplane: the directional gyroscope. Without it, planes couldn’t fly anywhere safely because they wouldn’t know where they’re going.

Similarly, the Gyroscope app is designed to navigate your life successfully, providing more stability and keeping you on track to your goals.

Let’s take a look at how the app has changed over the years…

V1

The first version of Gyroscope was launched in 2015, as the best way to visualize & share your life.

The first Apple Watch had just come out and wearables were starting to become popular.

V2

In version two, we started building our own trackers to fill in the gaps.

This included our popular Places tracking — providing detailed maps and timelines of how you spend your time, and also Mood tracking — with detailed measurements of your stress and happiness in less than a minute.

In version 3, we launched our Apple Watch experience and started getting even more biometrics like heart rate variability and VO2 Max.

As more and more data (HRV, bodyfat, calories, mood, biometrics, exercise, places) started going into Gyroscope, people were asking us: what does this all mean? How do I get insights?

Instead of just looking at the graphs and having to figure it out on your own, the Health Score algorithm started to find meaning in the data and made improving your health into a fun video game.

As more biometrics came into Gyroscope, we started to understand what was going on within the human body — even detecting changes in immune function and warning people when they were more likely to get sick.

At this point, people could set up their wearables and then Gyroscope could detect health problems affecting people: high bodyfat, unstable glucose levels, low sleep, being sedentary, and many others.

But most of our users didn’t know how to improve these, even with trackers.

We assembled a team of great coaches, nutritionists, nurses and other experts to guide people with individual coaching. We called this Gyroscope X.

At first it was hard to improve people’s health — just with sleep and exercise and the other Gyroscope metrics — but once we built our own detailed nutrition and glucose tracking, the results were incredible.

Everyone started getting into the best shape of their lives.

Solving nutrition was the final piece in the puzzle that everyone was missing from their other trackers and wearables.

The only problem with this approach was that it was expensive. The people using it said it was the best investment they ever made, but not everyone could afford to get started.

Our secret master plan was not to just become the best coaching company, but to use the coaching and data generated by our top users to eventually make good health accessible to everyone in the world. Now we’re ready to do that.

In V5, we’re making all these life-changing insights free for everyone through the comprehensive Life Academy and detailed science guides.

Based on your feedback over the last few years, we have redesigned the app to be simpler, easier to use, and more powerful — with each feature designed to help you live longer and reach your optimal healthspan.

It is now available for all iPhone & Android members!

Let’s see how it works…

Once you set your main goal in the app — losing bodyfat, gaining muscle, or living longer — the new Life tab will provide detailed guides and insights to get you there.

We’ve taken all of the data and intelligence in Gyroscope, and simplified it into one actionable insight for the day. It could be a new habit that you’re testing, a new data point that needs your attention, or your latest insight to practice from the academy.

The Academy will coach you through all aspects of your health, starting with the basics like measuring your baseline, eating, exercise and sleep. Then move on to more advanced chapters like food timing, breathwork, muscle building and even glucose levels!

Each chapter has science guides to teach you how it works. Instead of just reading about it and then moving on, you will get a series of insights to make sure you put them into practice and build new habits.

The new Track tab is where you can see all your data, with trends and reports to see the big picture from one place. Now you can start tracking most of your life without any special devices or wearables.

At the top you’ll see Today’s latest metrics, updating every minute as new data comes in.

The app includes easy to use trackers for your places, mood, steps, and much more. Connect wearables, wifi scales, and other apps to add more biometrics like HRV, heart rate, bodyfat, DNA or even blood levels.

Here you can easily open your daily report, to see everything that happened today, yesterday or any day in the past.

Keep scrolling for highlights from your recent data—trends, sleep scores, food photos, places, and even leaderboards if you have friends in the app...

Once you start tracking your life, people often ask: what does it all mean?

The Score tab answers this with your Health Score, analyzing your data every day to show how you’re doing and what’s changing.

Here you’ll find detailed grades that show exactly what needs your attention. Checking this frequently will help you use your limited time and energy where it’s most beneficial to your health & longevity.

To help keep all these grades high, you now have access to powerful AI coaches in the app. They will tell you exactly what to through guided meditations, breathwork classes, sleep coaching, workouts that can be done at home or at a gym, and more.

Once you’ve done the basics and have a Health Score above 70, you can unlock the Health Labs to start doing more advanced experiments.

This is like an app store for your body, where you can install new habits. These are science-based ways to improve your metabolic health, increase focus, reduce stress and anxiety, or even optimize your sleep!

Just like on Amazon you can see the reviews before buying something, you can see the ratings from others in the community before trying it yourself.

When you do an experiment, your Health Score will measure the changes using your wearables and all your metrics. At the end you will see your results to decide if it worked and share your own review, helping the entire community and advancing science.

The new food tab makes tracking your food and fasting effortless.

Simply take a photo of each meal, and your eating and fasting times will automatically be calculated.

See a simple and intuitive picture of your eating patterns through the repeat meals feature, which automatically finds patterns in your meals.

Nutrition is much more than just limiting your calories. We’ve found 6 important metrics needed for long-term health & longevity.

Energy balance, Nutrient density, Processed foods, Protein synthesis, Hunger levels, and Glucose levels!
